SIMPLE TMJ DEVICES
Treating disfunctions of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) can become very involved and expensive and sometimes with little improvement. Our approach depends on the patient's symptoms and sometimes can be allieviated by following our office tips that are simple to incorporate into your daily routine. We also offer 2 different appliances that are inexpensive, easy to wear, and more often than not, successful.
Maxillary anterior passive appliance - we take an easy impression of your top teeth (it does not fill your entire mouth) and in about a week have your in-office made hard plastic device that fits over your top, six front teeth. This keeps your back teeth from touching therefore allieviating the pressure on your joint. This device has been beneficial for many of our patients for their jaw pain and headaches. Easy to make, easy to wear.
Tension suppression system- the only device FDA approved for the treatment of migraines/headaches. It relaxes the muscles involved in grinding and clenching while keeping the teeth from the canines back to the molars from touching. This device is more expensive and usually takes 2 weeks or more for the laboratory to make.
